22kill.com Challenge

My friend and team member Aneaya challenged me to help get the word out about 22Kill.com.  She is doing 22 push ups for 22 days to spread the word about the 22 soldiers a day that commit suicide a day.

So who is 22KILL.COM and what are they doing to help are returning service men and women?

What is #22KILL?

#22KILL is a global movement created by veterans with a mission to:

  • Honor those who serve(d)
  • Raise awareness to veteran suicide and mental health issues such as PTS and TBI
  • Educate the public about current veteran-related topics and issues
  • Recruit Veteran Advocates aka “Battle Buddies”
  • Support various veteran empowerment programs; i.e. Honor Courage Commitment, Inc. (HCC), Equest Hooves for Heroes, Brain Treatment Foundation, Center for BrainHealth, REACT, Adaptive Training Foundation, and more.

Veteran Advocates aka “Battle Buddies” wear the #22KILL Honor Ring™ – a black band worn on the right index finger. By choosing to become part of Team #22KILL and wearing this ring, you are committed to:

  • Research and learn about your local veteran service organizations and what their missions and needs are
  • Focus on veteran strengths and challenge negative attitudes around veteran “issues”
  • Advocate for veterans in a positive light in any platform you have
  • Raise awareness to the issues of veteran suicide, and follow up with a positive solution through education and empowerment through programs offered from local nonprofits and veteran service organizations
  • Believing that veterans are America’s greatest asset and learning to love them and show them that you care

I am honored to be doing these as I have so many friends that have or are serving in the military right now.  It is only 22 push ups

(Fill in the blank) If I would stop _________, I could _________.

If you have to guess what number of attempts people take to try something new, what would you guess?

As a young man, Aber handling 10 went to war has a captain and returned a private Afterward, he was a failure as a businessman. As a lawyer in Springfield, he was too impractical and temperamental to be a success. He turned to politics and was defeated in his first right for the legislature, and again defeated in his first attempt to be nominated for Congress, Defeated a in his sent to a real election of 1854, defeated in his efforts for the vice presidency in 1856, and defeated in the senatorial election of 1858. But about that time, he wrote a letter to his friend, ” I am now the most miserable man living. If what I feel were equally disturbed to the whole human family, there would not be one sure full face on the earth.”

Can you imagine if that is 16th president of the United States of America had given up? How it would have changed history?

Would you be surprised if I told you that the most common number of attempts at trying something new is zero. Most people don’t even try, they decides that they will fail before they even begin.

We all have excuses. I’m too old, I won’t be good at it, it is too hard, I am too dumb, etc…

John C. Maxwell said it best when he said, “When you first start something new accept the fact that he will probably be bad at it.”

Chances are you aren’t a prodigy, and you will not be an expert in the new thing that you try, in fact you may very well be quite bad at it. That’s OK, we aren’t made to the expert in everything that we try the first time. Instead we try, then we are able to review what worked and what didn’t work.  Correct the things that didn’t work and improves on the things that did work.

You’re human and that means are not perfect, which his perfect. As the challenges in our lives that make us who we are and what we are going to become.

How do you define success?

The dictionary defines success as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.

Have you looked at what success means to you?

Ultimately when we strive for success it comes in many forms for different people, but when it comes down to it happiness is what we are striving for.

Sadly many times what people think will bring them happiness is looking for the approval of others. Thinking that when they have the approval have that special someone, their boss, their family or some other outside source, then they will be happy.

Never taking the time to make sure that they’re happy for themselves. And when they reach their goal of getting the approval of that outside source they still are not happy.

Make sure that your goals are for yourself and not for someone else. They can affect other people but it needs to be for you and not them. You need to care I care about it and about yourself, because if you do not care about your goal then others will not care or respect it either.

When I decided that I had to change it was for myself because I wanted to be someone that I was happy with and that I was proud to have my kids look up to.  I wanted to feel desirable to my wife, even though I knew she would love me no matter what I looked like.

I was proud of myself whenever I hit different level of my fitness goals, so it was just an added bonus when my wife compared me to Thor, you can never go wrong when you are compared to a demi-god.

3 Steps to start your workout journey.

Three steps to starting you journey.

Get moving.  There are so many different reason but here are three that helped me.

Get moving…
You have to move.  An object in motion tends to stay in motion but if you don’t move your body you will become a big paper weight that won’t want to do anything except hold the chair you are sitting on down to the floor.

Don’t measure yourself…
OK, yes I do think you should right down your weight, take before pictures and measurements.  What I don’t want you doing is saying “So-and-so looks so much better then me.”

We are all on are own journey, in our own temple (body), taking our own path.  Saying I want a body like Hugh Jackman, whose job is to act and look good isn’t the same path as me.  So comparing is setting ourselves up for an unfair comparison.

This is something that can help you in all areas and not just working out but it helps for sure when we are pushing our bodies.  Deep breaths help get oxygen into our bodies that allow us to push harder and stay focused.  Plus if you don’t breath during a workout you will die ;)

Shake things up!

There is the perfect plan and then there is what actually happens.

Often times when we plan something out so detailed we get frustrated when things don’t go the way that we like them too. The trick is to adjust and make the best of what comes to us.

Don’t be so stuck in your ways to see that troubles or issues aren’t there to make sure that you are being the best you that you can be.

Be happy with what you have accomplished.

Society has given so many quick fixes that when we see that they have a path in front of them that will take effort and time, weekend to look for an easier and simpler route.

The path is more rewarding when you know you’ve earned it and it was just given to you. Focus on how far you’ve come because there is never an ending, you can always be more successful.

You get to choose…

It is a new week and that means it is time to choose a new additude!

We don’t get to choose what happens to us, we only get to choose the path of how we are going to move forward.

Would you bet on your own life knowing your past?

@jensicero in her book #youareabadass said “You are the author of your own life.” and that means for good or for bad.

The events of your life might have delivered you where you are today but they don’t define where you are going tomorrow.

The Next Step not all steps

What you tell yourself has more power to affect your future then the things that are happening to you everyday.

I love the movie The Martian because the main character Mark Watney had every chance to say that’s it I’m done, I can’t take another setback. He doesn’t worry about everything he has to overcome but instead he only focuses on what’s next.

You don’t have to focus on everything, just what’s next, what do you have to do right now to make the next step in life.  You can’t walk a mile unless you walk the first 3 feet.
