Has to deal with Tony Horton & BeachBody’s P90X program.

Daily Success 5/1/2013 – “WHAT DID I DO TO MY BODY?!”

I’ve battled being overweight my entire life. But a few years back, I worked really hard to get in shape so I could enlist in the Military. Everything was going great until I injured my knee and was unable to work out with much intensity. Frustrated with the pain and my restricted mobility, I simply stopped caring, ate whatever I wanted, and slept all the time. But after 8 months of this destructive behavior, I packed on the pounds. I couldn’t even run ONE lap in PT without feeling like my heart was going to explode. And while I hated being out of shape, I put up with it until the day I saw a picture of myself in a sleeveless dress and thought, “WHAT DID I DO TO MY BODY?!”
I knew exactly what I had done to my body. NOTHING! That’s why my 5’ 4” frame tipped the scale at 173 pounds. So I dug out the P90X set that I’d been “saving” for the past two years, and convinced myself that if I could get through just ONE workout, then I could do them all. Fearing that I’d quit after just a few weeks (like I always do) I pre-wrote my Success Story to keep me motivated. I kept imagining myself as “That Girl.”

Apparently it worked, because in 6 months I lost 30 lbs., went from a size 14 to an 8, and for the first time in my life, I’m finally comfortable in my own skin. Gone is the bitter and angry Jamie—and here to stay is a happy, healthy, confident woman who loves talking to strangers about health and fitness. Now every time I go to the gym, I make it a point to grab a 30 lb. dumbbell and do squats or shrugs, just so I can remind myself of how much weight I’ve lost. My next goal is to grab a 50 lb. dumbbell, and do the exact same thing.

Sometimes I still can’t believe that in only 6 months, I went from barely being able to stand for five minutes, to doing P90X’s Plyometrics, and kicking and jumping with INSANITY and Turbo Fire. And even though I have to modify the workouts due to my knee, I’m still getting great results. During my second round of P90X, I even incorporated INSANITY into my workouts—a program I thought I’d NEVER be able to do. See, it just shows you that once you start believing in yourself, amazing things can happen.

I also started using Shakeology at the end of month 2 and immediately saw a reduction in my cravings for carbs and sweets. Now I drink it every night for dinner. I recently did the 3-day Shakeology cleanse and lost 6 lbs. It took away the bloating in my stomach, my whole body felt lighter, and my workouts really began to accelerate.

In these past 6 months, I’ve not only transformed my body, I’ve completely rewired my mind. I’m such a happier, healthier person who’s now incredibly confident and determined to build a strong and healthy future.

Daily Success 4/24/2013 – I started to gain weight due to lack of exercise and eating fast food all the time.

I was always the skinny kid growing up, and spent lots of time playing sports. For the 7 years I was in the US Army, I was also generally fit. But upon leaving the Army in 2003, I started to gain weight due to lack of exercise and eating fast food all the time. Every morning I would grab a chicken biscuit (hey, I was eating chicken, that’s healthy, right?) a soda, and hash browns or fries for breakfast. Then I’d go out for lunch, get the biggest burger on the menu, and eat the entire thing. On the way home, I’d stop at a fast food place or order pizza for dinner. Before I knew it, I had ballooned to 240 lbs. and was always tired.
One day I woke up completely out of breath, like I had been underwater for hours. I knew I had sleep apnea, and at some point I had probably stopped breathing. Luckily, that time I woke up. I will never forget that turning point, when I knew something was wrong and decided to change my life.

I chose P90X® because I’d seen the infomercials multiple times and figured, “If these guys can do it, so can I.” I liked the fact that P90X is a total-body program, and I didn’t have to buy a bunch of weights or equipment. The greatest challenge I faced was finding the motivation to change my exercise and eating habits. I would start P90X and quit a couple of weeks later, start back up, and then quit again. I did this about 3 times. I finally committed fully when I was invited to Jon Congdon’s “Comeback Kids” P90X Challenge Group by my Beachbody Coach. That time, I completed the entire program.

The motivation and support from Challenge Groups is phenomenal! Posting motivational pictures and quotes on social media sites, as well as seeing others’ results, kept me accountable and helped me reach every goal I set. I drink Shakeology® every morning after I workout, and it’s also played a key role in my transformation. It leaves me feeling full, and gives me tons of energy throughout the day so that I can accomplish all my tasks. I definitely sleep better, and my mood is better than it has been in years.

To date, I have lost 62 lbs. and 22 inches off my body, and am in the best shape of my life. Even when I was in the US Army, running and exercising every day, I never had the definition in my abs, arms, shoulders, and legs that I have now. I’m more active, have more energy, and can accomplish things I only dreamed of when I was overweight. I’ve completed an 11-mile mud run (with more to come!), and am a better employee, husband, and father.

Daily Success 4/23/2013 – I would sit on the couch, eat junk food, watch television, and barely move.

Negativity surrounded my life, and I was depressed. After a long day at work, I would sit on the couch, eat junk food, watch television, and barely move. I was sad, unconfident, had no energy, and was always asking myself, “Why am I alive?” One day eating bad fast food landed me in the hospital, on the verge of kidney failure, with the worst infection they’d ever seen. I was scared out of my mind. Fortunately my boyfriend took care of me, but when I got out of the hospital on his birthday, we couldn’t celebrate the way we’d planned because I was hooked up to an IV.
That changed my life forever. My boyfriend had already lost his mother, and I realized it scared him to see how sick I was. I decided that was the last day he would ever see me like that. I chose P90X because so many people were doing it and getting in the best shape of their lives.

The greatest challenge I faced was Pushing Play and sticking to the 90-day program. Being in a Challenge Group taught me what healthy eating was, and motivated me to work out. I felt if I didn’t work out or eat healthy meals, then I would get kicked out of the group—even though that wasn’t really the case. Logging in my workouts in the SuperGym made it easier to coordinate my daily plans, because then I knew which workout was next and how long it was. I liked that P90X switched the workouts constantly, using Muscle Confusion to get me the best results possible.

P90X took me from size 8 and 143 pounds to size 2 and 118 pounds, and completely changed my life. Now I’m proud to go shopping and wear my clothes with confidence—and without my belly showing! I am so positive and try to inspire others to live a healthier life in all aspects, including fitness, nutrition, goal setting, financial freedom, and motivation to attain their dreams. That’s why I became Beachbody Coach and created my team, Nutritious Fitness. I now have positive and supportive friends all over the country! This Beachbody program saved my life, and now I am sharing my story so I can help save others.

Daily Success 4/17/2013 – I was disgusted with myself, and had been my whole life

Before losing 92 lbs. with P90X, INSANITY, and Asylum Vol 1, I was disgusted with myself, and had been my whole life. I can’t even recall the number of times I tried losing weight, but nothing ever worked—I was still the fat kid. Failing to achieve my goals would depress the heck out of me and I’d fall back into my bad habits, and there were many. Sadly, it took getting a DUI at 22 for me hit rock bottom and finally decide that enough was enough! I was tired of being fat. I was tired of being depressed. And I was tired of being unhealthy.
To lose all that weight, I spent 9 months busting my butt doing 2 rounds of P90X, and one each of INSANITY and Asylum—which is by far my favorite workout because it tested my body in ways I never imagined! More than anything, I love Shaun T.’s intensity and how he pushes you during workouts. It feels like you are in the same room with him so you give it your all. Specifically, I love the sports drills and the use of the agility ladder, weights, and jump rope. It substantially stepped up my performance and trained me like an athlete. But there were tough days too, and that’s why I’m so thankful for my Challenge Group, Team RockStarFit, and for my wonderful coach, Angie K. She answered all my questions while continually inspiring me to push harder—I couldn’t have done it without her and can’t thank her enough!

I also want to give the same shout out to Trina G. and Nickie C. because they too inspired me on all cylinders and kept me motivated in pursuing my journey and guiding me in the right direction with Team Beachbody. I feel like I was truly meant to find them and Team Beachbody and am truly committed to succeeding and being that person who lifts people up and changes their lives. Thanks guys for all of your help and changing my life!

During my weight loss and muscle building journey, I actually fell in love with eating healthy and now look at food as a lifestyle, not a diet. I also just started drinking Shakeology, which has helped me so much with my results. I love the fact that I’m giving my body everything it needs and deserves.

And while I’m extremely proud of my physical transformation, I never imagined it would alter my mind the way it has. My mentality is through the roof and I truly believe I can accomplish ANYTHING in life. Plus, it’s no longer a drag going to the doctor. Not only have I impressed myself, but my dr. just told me that I’m one of his healthiest and fittest patients, and he can’t believe how much I’ve changed in less than a year. Heck, I can’t believe how much I’ve changed. But if I did it, anyone can—first you believe, then you achieve.

Now I’m a Beachbody Coach and have dedicated my life to inspiring others to change their lives, reach their goals, and accomplish their dreams before they hit rock bottom like I did. I owe Beachbody everything for giving me my life back and making me who I’ve always wanted to be. Next up: INSANITY The Asylum Volume 2.

Daily Success 4/18/2013 – I was diagnosed with prostate cancer—then things just got worse

Before I began my health and fitness journey a year and a half ago, I was in ridiculously bad shape, and had been for quite some time. Eight years ago, at 42, I was diagnosed with prostate cancer—then things just got worse. By the time I was 47, my 5’ 9” frame was struggling to lug around 223 lbs., I was on high cholesterol meds and a CPAP machine for sleep apnea, had chronic knee problems, and was ALWAYS exhausted. All I’d do was work, eat, nap, watch TV, and sleep—day, after day, after day. But that hadn’t always been my life.
I used to be a personal trainer for a national health club chain for 2 years, and even served in the U.S. Marine Corps, graduating with honors from Boot Camp. But as the years passed, I indulged in all things unhealthy, and got fat and lazy. Then I watched a Marine buddy of mine on Facebook drop weight with P90X and thought that maybe, just maybe, Beachbody had a program that would fit into my busy schedule, and sure enough they did—it’s called 10 Minute Trainer, and it completely changed my life.

In the beginning, my workouts were only 10 minutes. But I worked my way up to doing 20-minute workouts, and before I knew it, I was exercising 30 minutes a day. And even though each session was short, the workouts were fun, challenging, and delivered results. I also started drinking Shakeology daily, which boosted my energy, gave me the nutrition my body so desperately needed, and it took away my cravings for junk food and sweets.

After just 3 months, I lost 40 lbs., ditched my high cholesterol meds, have tons more energy, my knees are better, and I no longer use a CPAP machine. Also, my thighs are slimmer, my butt’s smaller, and I finally have a six-pack—even Marine training couldn’t give me the rock-hard body 10-Minute Trainer enabled me to build.

Since completing 10-Minute Trainer, I’ve done The Ultimate Reset®, lost and additional 16 lbs. and lowered my cholesterol even further. But I didn’t stop there. I’ve also conquered Power 90®, Insanity®, and P90X® and have never been in better shape in my entire life. Now I’m a Beachbody Coach and run monthly Challenge Groups and a weekly Fit Club. I have several private and public Facebook groups and pages—all so I can help people with their health and fitness goals. Beachbody is such a huge part of my life and I couldn’t be happier.

Daily Success 4/8/2013 – I was extremely overweight and I’m not sure how I got there.

Before I was introduced to Beachbody, I was extremely overweight and I’m not sure how I got there. I was unmotivated, uninspired, and at 277 lbs.—I just figured that this was the way my life was going to be.
I started taking Mixed Martial Arts classes and I was seeing results but very slowly. A little after I started I was diagnosed with a chronic illness that could severely change my life, I knew it was time to get healthy, that’s when my life changed forever. During the holiday, one student taught a section on strength training and used INSANITY.

After class, I started talking to him and he spoke about INSANITY, Shakeology and Beachbody with such passion, I asked him to be my Coach right then. He suggested I start with Shakeology, and after losing 7 pounds in just two weeks, I called and asked: “what else you got for me?”

His answer? “INSANITY.” It was tough. But with his support and encouragement, I stuck with it for 60 days and lost 42 pounds! INSANITY was exactly what I needed. It was intense, but I loved the focus and the way myworkout continued to change. It was the hardest thing, but INSANITY gave me the cardio I needed to lose weight. When I was finished, I called him again and said, “that was awesome… what’s next?”

Since then, I’ve done INSANITY: THE ASYLUM® Volume 1 and Volume 2, P90X, P90X2, LES MILLS Pump, (and INSANITY a second time because it’s my first love!). A year and a half later, Beachbody has helped me lose 93 pounds (out of my total weight loss of 138 pounds) and changed my life in such a positive way.

I am now a Coach and helping others. I remember when I started my journey with INSANITY, I sent my Coach a text that said, “I’m still alive… that was the craziest, hardest workout I’ve ever done! Can’t wait for Day 2!” There’s no way I would have had the success I had without my coach. Thank you for all the support through my journey!

If I can help motivate and change one person’s life the way my coach helped me, than I will say I’m successful. I am truly blessed to be given this opportunity.

Daily Success 3/27/2013 – I saw in the mirror each day was of a person who had no passion about life

Before I started my journey, I was on a 4 cheeseburger, 2 large pizza, beer, no exercise kind of lifestyle. I had zero focus. Could care less about my health. The image I saw in the mirror each day was of a person who had no passion about life. It was a downward spiral. No hope of living a long and happy life.
But once my kids came along, everything changed.

I started with P90X®. I was the beginning of my journey. It taught me how to work out at home. Now I am doing Body Beast® I wanted something to help build some mass while burning off the fat. Beast is the perfect workout for someone like me.

So far, I have lost about 160 pounds, altogether using various Beachbody programs—P90X, INSANITY, Body Beast, Shakeology, the Ultimate Reset, etc. The weight loss has to be my biggest accomplishment. But now that I’m doing Body Beast, I have packed on about 15 pounds of muscle. So my journey is transforming. Taking me places I never could have imagined.

I have gone from a couch potato to a fitness warrior. My life has been given back to me. I would have been dead by 40. Now age is just a number. I eat for success, not satisfaction. I use the food tracker to keep track of every piece of food that goes in my mouth. I complete marathons, warrior dashes, Spartan runs.

Daily Success 3/25/2013 – I even had the nickname, Pudge

I have always been chubby. As a kid I even had the nickname, Pudge. I never really thought much about my health until my wife was diagnosed with a chronic illness that effected her brain and every aspect of her life. So far, she’s undergone seven surgeries, including 6 brain surgeries. That was a MAJOR wakeup call for us. After her last surgery we decided to change our lifestyle knowing that we couldn’t change her chronic illness but we could save ourselves from other illnesses by focusing on our health.
We both started drinking Shakeology and focusing on nutrition. I also started and finished P90X, Tai Cheng, and we tackled the Ultimate Reset together. Since then I have so much more energy. My friends and family are astonished with my results. I’m happier, healthier, and my life has been enhanced SO MUCH this past year through Beachbody.

Thanks to P90X I got the six-pack that I always wanted. After that intense program I needed a little rest, so I went straight into Tai Cheng. Tai Cheng was low impact but I realized once I got started that it really works you out! The core strengthening was amazing. My posture and core have never been better.

Shakeology made a big difference, too. I’m a Registered Nurse doing home healthcare so I spend most of my day in my car. It used to be easy to grab fast food, but with Shakeology I don’t have to do that. I carry my shaker cup and have lunch on the go. Before Shakeology, I used to chug 4-5 cups of coffee a day to keep me going. But since Shakeology, I haven’t had a cup.

Daily Success 3/12/2013 – My body had become like a prison

I was addicted to food. My body had become like a prison I created one bite at a time. Even worse, I was living with out-of-control diabetes and had gained over 25 pounds. Was the stress and disappointment of trying to have a baby for two years driving me to unhealthy eating habits? You bet.

5-Jason-P90X-ShakeOBut it took one little thing to change the course of my life: hearing the heartbeat of my 7-week unborn son at the fertility clinic. That event alone caused me to do some serious soul searching.

I had seen Tony Horton’s P90X®infomercial on TV for years. I loved the concept. The energy. All the inspirational stories. I dreamed of my body looking as good as the people on the infomercial so I decided to take the 90-day plunge.

Talk about a complete program! Muscle strength days. Cardiovascular days. There’s even a nutrition guide, a workout calendar, and a complete breakdown of each of the workouts. How cool is that?

Today, I’ve lost 30 pounds of pure blubber and over 12 inches off my waist. And thanks to Shakeology®, I don’t eat junk food and have been able to get my blood sugar levels under control. In fact, I’ve gone from 5 shots of insulin a day to just one. But the best part is that now I know I’ll be there for my children for years to come.

Daily Success 2/26/2013 – If I didn’t make a drastic change soon, I might never get the chance.

I was 28, weighed over 250 lbs. and I was in terrible shape. I knew it. But when my doctor told me the unexplained pains in my neck and chest were from my extremely high blood pressure, it finally hit home that my lifestyle was KILLING me. If I didn’t make a drastic change soon, I might never get the chance.

I originally chose P90X because I liked the idea of building muscle while losing weight. That’s what got me started. After two official rounds of P90X and some of what I called “P90X Off-Road,” I decided to commit to INSANITY, which got me to a level of fitness I had never thought possible. I was so happy with my results, I followed my first round of INSANITY with 3 rounds of a P90X/ASYLUM hybrid, and I just completed my second round of Body Beast.

Not bad for a fat guy who hated to work out. My results have been nothing short of phenomenal. I have lost over 80 lbs. and totally transformed my body in a way I never dreamed would happen. Doing the version of clap/plyo pushups that Tony calls “psycho” and completing my first real pullup were memorable moments in my journey that gave me a real feeling of accomplishment.

I LOVE the fact that I feel like a completely different person inside and out. I have more energy. I rarely get sick. I have so much confidence. But the best thing is when people tell me that I’ve inspired them to change their lives. When I see that my journey has given other people hope that they can do the same thing, it is a truly amazing feeling.
